How Do I Recognize When Countertransference is Interfering?

Saturday, October 5, 2019 1:00-2:30 PM

Details

Details Countertransference is omnipresent in our psychoanalytic work. Studying how this phenomenon can lead to countertransference resistance is one of our major tasks. This workshop offers an opportunity for clinicians to present countertransference issues that are resulting in treatment impasses and interfering with making therapeutic interventions.  Modern psychoanalytic understanding of theory and technique will be highlighted to address these resistances.

Presenter:

Faye Newsome, M.A., Cert.Psya. is a senior Training and Supervising Psychoanalyst at the Boston Graduate School of Psychoanalysis and the Center for Modern Psychoanalytic Studies in New York.. She has extensive clinical and supervisory experience studying and presenting on the countertransference phenomenon.

Continuing Education Objectives:

Participants will be able to:

  1. Discuss the inevitability of countertransference and give examples of how it manifests itself in treatment.
  2. Discuss the source of countertransference in particular cases.
  3. Discuss methods and give examples of resolving countertransference resistance to lead to therapeutic interventions.
